Knitting terms

K = knit

P= Purl

M1R = Make one right {Insert the left needle from back to front under the horizontal strand between the stitches (thus lifting it onto the left-hand needle). Knit through the front loop to twist the stitch}

M1L = Make one left {Insert the left needle from front to back under the horizontal strand between the stitches (thus lifting it onto the left-hand needle). Knit through the back loop to twist the stitch}

PM: Place Marker

SM: Slip Marker

SKP= Slip the next stitch, knit the next, pass the slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch

TOG= together

INSTRUCTIONS

Yoke and Body:

Using 3mm straight or long circular needles, cast on 64 [68] stitches

Rib the neckband as follows:

• Row 1: K3, P2, (K2, P2) to the last 3 stitches, K3
• Row 2: P3, K2, (P2, K2) to the last 3 stitches, P3
• Row 3-6: Repeat row 1 and 2 two times more

Using 3.25mm straight or long circular needles,

Divide for body and sleeves.

• RS: K24 [26], remove marker, slip 37 [42] stitches into a stitch holder or waste yarn, remove marker, cast on 6 stitches, K46 [52], remove marker, slip 37 [42] stitches into a stitch holder or waste yarn, remove marker, cast on 6 stitches, K24 [26]. (106 [116] stitches)
• WS: Purl all stitches

Work 27 [33] rows in stockinette stitch, starting with a RS row and ending in a RS row.

Next row:

• 0-3 months size: P26, P2tog, P50, P2tog, P26. (104 stitches)
• 3-6 months size: P8, P2tog, (P12, P2tog) 7 times, P8. (106 stitches)

Using 3mm long or circular knitting needles,

• Row 1: K3, P2, (K2, P2) to the last 3 stitches, K3
• Row 2: P3, K2, (P2, K2) to the last 3 stitches, P3
• Row3-6: Repeat row 1 and 2 two times more

Cast off in rib.

Both Sleeves:

Sleeves are worked in the round.

Transfer 37 [42] sleeve stitches to 3.25mm DPNS.

With RS facing, Pick up and knit 3 stitches from the 6 underarm cast on stitches, pick up and knit one more stitch (in the space between left and right needle, making it a total of 4 picked up stitches), K37 [42], Pick up and knit 4 stitches. Mark the beginning of round. (45 [50] stitches)

Next row: K3, K2tog, K35 [40], SKP, K3. (43 [48] stitches)

Knit 11 [5] rows.

• Next row: K1, SKP, Knit to the last 3 stitches, K2tog,K1
• Knit 5 rows without decreasing

Repeat the last 6 rows, 2 times more [ 4 times more]. (37 [38] stitches)

• Next row: K1, SKP, Knit to the last 3 stitches, K2tog,K1
• Knit 3 rows without decreasing

Next row:

• 0-3 months size: K4, K2tog, K10, K2tog, K10, K2tog, K5 (32 stitches)
• 3-6 months size: knit (36 stitches)

Using 3mm DPNS,

• Row 1-6: K2, P2 till the end of row.

Cast off in rib.

Button band:

With RS facing, using 3mm straight or long circular needles, pick up and knit 58 [62] stitches evenly along the left front edge (top to bottom edge)

• WS: P2, (K2, P2) till then end of row
• RS: K2, (P2. K2) till then end of row

Repeat the last 2 rows once more and the WS row once (total of 5 rib rows)

Cast off in Rib.

Buttonhole band:

With RS facing, using 3mm straight or long circular needles, pick up and knit 58 [62] stitches evenly along the left front edge (bottom to top edge)

• WS: P2, (K2, P2) till then end of row
• RS: K2, (P2. K2) till then end of row
• Buttonhole row (WS): Rib 2, (rib2tog, yrn, rib 11 [12]) 4 times, rib 2 tog, yrn, Rib 2
• RS: K2, (P2. K2) till then end of row
• WS: P2, (K2, P2) till then end of row

Total of 5 rib rows

Cast off in Rib.

Finishing:

Sew in ends and sew buttons in place.

Block gently.
